Review of Lone Wolf McQuade (1983) by Jason G — 02 Mar 2009
Really, truly stands as the greatest Chuck Norris film of all time.
Well cast... well shot... (more than enough nods to Sergio Leone's classic westerns both visually as well as musically) help to elevate this Chuck Norris vehicle to a higher level.
Director Steve Carver may have emulated the Leone "style"... but if there's ANYBODY you should rip off when making a "nouveau-western" its Sergio Leone!
Norris is in top form. There are a few cheesy lines and his acting isn't the greatest (sorry Chuck... I know you're tough and all, but please don't kill me...) but Lone Wolf McQuade makes up for any shortcomings with a great plot, excellent supporting cast and some better than decent action scenes.
Be on the lookout for great performances by Barbara Carrera, David Carradine and L.Q. Jones (Sam Elliot - "Light")... as they carry the dead weight with enough flare to make Lone Wolf McQuade one of those "guilty pleasure" movies you'll dig out and watch on a Sunday afternoon, at least once a year.
