Review of Lone Wolf and Cub: Baby Cart in Peril (1972) by James-Masaki R — 21 Aug 2010
Although the fourth film switches directors, it doesn't change the Lone Wolf series' tone at all. There are flying body parts everywhere, blood spraying, and this time, great camerawork from the legendary Miyagawa Kazuo, the film is just another winner in a perfect film series.
Little Daigoro gets lost during a small festival, and Ogami Itto worries for his fate. Unusually, the film is mostly from Daigoro's point of view, and that is a welcome addition too. To find his father again, he goes to temples, something that his father always does. At one temple, Daigoro meets Yagyu Gunbei, a man defeated years ago by Ogami. From this encounter leads to the inevitable encounter between Ogami and Gunbei again.
