Review of London Boulevard (2010) by Thalana D — 17 Jan 2012
A very well turned out performance by Colin Farrell is butchered by William Monahan and left amongst the many fictional corpses blocking doorways and stairwells by the end of this shameful spectacle. Keira Knightly does an admirable job of playing her character with a tender touch, which is about the only relief one can possible have in thinking back over the plot.
This film could have been saved from catastrophe if... everyone hadn't died. There is a touch of taking film paradigms too far, and the classic tale of a man trying to escape his past comes to an absolutely unacceptable and unrewarding end at the hands of a peripheral and desperately symbolic character.
Underneath flashy camera techniques, Kasabian songs and Ray Winstone. You better have a real script... unfortunately for Monahan, he has neither that nor the aesthetic sensibility to direct a movie that doesn't cause his audience to both fall asleep and vomit simultaneously.
'Heard you've been looking for me' indeed, lets just hope that no one is looking for this in the shops.
