Review of Lolita (1962) by Wut S — 21 Jun 2008
Due to the issues with censorship, the dearth of sexual overtness kept the audience who, like me, had not read Nabokov's raw mat, questioning til the very near end whether or not Humbert and Lolita had any physical relationship. That "question" highly held up my interest throughout the film, which proved that Kubrick got skillz even in the midst of censorship poo.
However, for the people who have read the novel, this might not be as fresh for them. Still the characters are well-played. Humbert was believably pathetic, crooked, obsessively paternal, and hopelessly in love. Lolita was believably seductive, dangerously clever, immoral, and flawed.
