Review of Little Women (1933) by Ricardo O — 12 May 2011
This is a superb adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's beloved novel. This is the film that made Katharine Hepburn a star; the same year she'd win her first of four Oscars for the movie Morning Glory.
This film also won an Oscar for its screenplay. It seems like Little Women is a book that pretty much every adaptation is good but this is certainly the best of them. You get an excellent playing the four title characters highlighted by Hepburn and you have one of the greatest director's at the helm.
George Cukor was known for his skill at directing actresses and this is where his reputation started. It's one of the first "chick flicks", and easily one of the best. Little Women is highly recommended viewing.
10/10.
