Review of Little Shop of Horrors (1986) by Rick B — 27 Nov 2011
I'm not saying this is THE best film or even musical of all time, or that it is anything more than a campy, fun, black comedy on the surface. I'm not saying that this movie is an underrated masterpiece or that it deserves anything more than its already strong cult status. All I'm saying is that, ever since I was about 7 years old, this has been my favorite movie, or at least in my top 3. I don't think I know a film forwards and backwards the way I know this one. The songs aren't just catchy--they're contageous. The casting is beyond perfect. The visual effects and puppetry are flawless. And not to mention, it's funny. Like REALLY funny, in a way that makes me laugh like an idiot even though I've known the joke for about 14 years. Maybe it's nostalgia, or maybe this movie is just magic. I don't know, and I don't care, all I know is that I truely love "Little Shop of Horrors.".
(Have I mentioned that I really want this movie on Blu-ray? I'll sell you my left nut for one. Honest to God.).
