Review of Little Shop of Horrors (1986) by Shelbyreviews — 19 Jan 2019
I am a huge fan of musicals, but this film is one of my favorite that has been remade into a movie. Even though the original was in the 60's, this is by far the best version. The movie is meant to be made dark, silly and even cheesy.
But everything is just done so well and it's so enjoyable. I think the actors really make this movie what it is. This is by far my favorite performance by Rick Moranis, but it's also fun to see Steve Martin, and even a Bill Murray cameo.
For an older movie, they also do such a great job making Audrey II look so lifelike, and there are no silly CGI moments, etc. The one thing I go back and forth on is whether or not they should have used the original ending, where Audrey II takes over the world, Audrey dies and nothing really ends well.
But then again, I love seeing how cute it is when Seymour defeats Audrey II once and for all, while him and Audrey get their happily ever after. This film is just great and I highly recommend it to anyone who's into movie musicals.
It's hilarious, charming and messed up, all in one package.
