Review of Lion of the Desert (1981) by Jonathan M — 09 Jan 2010
Although hampered by a very long (3.5 hrs) runtime and having some very white actors playing Arabs, this is interesting as an anti-colonial project (bizarrely bankrolled by Gaddafi) about Italian incursions and war crimes in Libya pre-WWII.
"Lion of the Desert" is heavy on spectacle, but does effectively portray Mukhtar's difficulties organizing his resistance.
