Review of Lion (2015) by Muhammad L — 25 Feb 2017
What an eye opening and unflinching view of poverty and homeless children! This film is powerful and moving yet tremendously sad, and if you're not made of stone then you'll definitely be brought to tears.
Dev Patel gave a deep and empathetic performance and was the perfect actor for the role.
The film is split into two main parts - the first part is about a lost boy (who's extremely cute) in India who loses his family, and the second part is about him (as an adult) living a privileged life in a first world country trying to find the family he lost in India.
What makes the film sad is the fact that it's based on a true story. What strength and courage the little boy had when lost and alone in Calcutta. And his strength shows again when persisting to battle his pain and guilt, whilst searching google earth to find his village in India.
Lion is a beautiful film, it's simplistic yet full of complexities; and very emotional!
