Review of Arrival (2016) by Muhammad L — 16 Apr 2017
This is a slow burner but intelligent, thought provoking and slightly intimate. It's a beautiful mix of realism and a sense of wonder.
The movie has great visuals, it's intense, and Amy Adams gives a fantastic performance.
Arrival is nice change of pace and approach to the usual 'Alien' interaction sci-fi films we are used to seeing that's built around violence and battle as a solution due to fear and the unknown.
Instead what we see revolves around education, compassion, and curiosity; and ultimately builds up to the big meeting leaving you breathless leaving you with satisfying answers but inevitably profound questions.
