Review of Lion (2015) by Bill C — 24 Jun 2017
Sunny Pawar's young Saroo hooks us immediately and reels us in. His magnificent five-year-old smile demands that we see this story through to the end - in spite of muddled dialogue and a poorly defined supporting cast. A weepy Dev Patel convinces us of nothing, Rooney Mara can't seem to locate her character and Nicole Kidman is barely audible. Only Saroo's childhood flashbacks rescue the second half of this film.
This inspiring story may have fared better in more experienced hands; where is Danny Boyle when we need him? From the aptly named "See-Saw Films".
