Spielberg obviously caters more to Hollywood critics than to historians and social science experts when it comes to Lincoln, the cause of the Civil War was not exactly about slavery, it was about money! Slavery only happened to be such a tremendous component of the United States economic system during the first half of American history, the Confederate states and Union states were embroiled in political and economic conflict that regarded how should finances be dealt and all their money was coming from black slaves forced into growing tobacco, sugar or cotton, and the Confederacy and Union disagreed over whether Abraham Lincoln should be president or not.
