Review of Lincoln (2012) by Andy S — 24 Dec 2018
Just goes to show how much of an impact Abraham Lincoln had on everyone, how much everyone respects him. He was one of the first presidents or white people to stand for equal rights. Spielberg really nailed the era and all the costumes and sets. It's all pretty damn believable. If the movie is true to who Lincoln was, he was a very compassionate and patient man. Very friendly and amiable, down to earth.
This movie isn't just a biopic, it's a smart movie about history in the making and social commentary on politics. Really tricky the whole situation with Lincoln trying to get enough people to abolish slavery and seeing all the hoops he had to jump through is pretty agitating. It's pretty insane to think how divided this country was at a point in time. Why would there be so much hate towards a person just because there skin was darker than there's? I just don't get it.
Lincoln was a really clever and quick witted guy who spoke in many quotes and sayings always telling stories. That one scene where he's in the war room and he's starting to tell one of his stories and the General yells at him that he cannot listen to another one of his stories was hilarious. That scene with the guy pulling out the handgun and having to reload it to shoot the guy again was really well done, brilliantly funny.
I had no idea how tough of situations Lincoln was put into especially within his family. With Robbie wanting to go to war and his wife still grieving over there first sons death. What an awesome reveal when they show that Stevens is actually in a relationship with a black woman.
It's pretty crazy to see how much commotion he stirred up in America because of the amendment that he was trying to pass. What a beautiful movie and an amazing message to be heard throughout history and the universe - let it echo forever. He truly was an inspirational figure. This was all a matter of doing what's right, doing what was just and giving human beings the same right as everyone else. What an amazing moment in history to be a part of. What an amazing occasion because this was a moment in history when people put aside what party they represent, there beliefs, or who they knew, and voted for what was right. Truly amazing.
