Talky, long film about an alcoholic comedian who has lost his audiences is despite length and self-centeredness an intelligent self-portrait by a master storyteller who at the time the film was made had lost his own audience in the U.
S. A beautifully nostalgic look at life and art. Chaplin's haunting music won an oscar in 1972 when it was finally properly (re-)released in USA .
