Review of Limelight (1952) by Byron B — 11 Mar 2013
It's very good. It plods along a bit. Not funny as much as poignant. The film has lots of memorable scenes that deserve repeated viewings. I'm not sure the film as a whole merits repeated viewings. The music score is exceptional, and it won a Oscar in 1972 for best music score (the film didn't play LA until 1972). Claire Bloom is excellent, and I can't imagine a better debut film for an actress.
Keaton and Chaplin are very good together, and it would have been nice to see more of them.
I was struck by the obvious influence Chaplin had on Fellini in this film more than any other.
