Review of Lights Out (2016) by Rob R — 27 Oct 2016
Lights Out (2016).
Director James Wan's presence is known in Lights Out, even though he only produced the film. Wan (Saw, The Conjuring, Insidious) is a master of modern horror, so anything he touches should be seen by horror fans. Lights Out does use cliché scares, but it's able to do so with creativity and excellent visuals. A supernatural being that can only be seen when its dark, haunts a family that is broken with mental illness and neglect. The performances are surprisingly strong and emotional. The great cast, and visual elements brings to life what would be another average horror cliché and turns it into something that should be seen, even if it lacks the high scare level of modern horror fans. B-.
