Review of Lights Out (2016) by Jeremy H — 11 Oct 2016
Is there anything worse than taking an interesting horror concept and watering it down to PG-13 mediocrity? Darkness. Check. Young boy in peril. Check. Tough, independent young adult blonde girl. Check.
A mentally disturbed character to make it seem like the story has more depth than it does. Check. Stolen soundtrack from an effective classic horror film (The Ring) with an electronic update. Check. Creepy dark-haired dead girl than can distort reality and contort her body.
Check. Terrible dialogue in which everyone continuously states plot points to an already over-simplified story. Check. Plenty of jump-scares without actually being scary. Check.
