Review of Lifeforce (1985) by Kevin R — 24 Dec 2010
There are two nude males and one female.
A space mission finds an odd vessel full of rotting corpses that look like bats and three naked individuals, two males and one female. The humans are brought back to the spaceship and reanimated. Once the space humans become animated, they begin killing the crew. The vessel returns to Earth and unleashes the vampire like space humans.
"She killed all of my friends and I didn't want to leave. It was the hardest thing I ever did.".
Tobe Hooper, director of Texas Chainsaw Massacre 1 & 2, The Mangler, Invaders from Mars, Poltergeist, Eaten Alive, Salem's Lot, and the upcoming From a Buick 8, delivers Lifeforce. The storyline for this picture had an interesting premise but poor execution. There were some fascinating horror scenes, but the script and characters were bland and uninteresting. The acting was mediocre and the cast includes Peter Firth, Patrick Stewart, Steve Railsback, and Mathilda May (delicious).
"The condition of the bodies makes an accurate account impossible.".
Lifeforce was a film that aired during a drive-in marathon on MGM over the summer. The premise for this film, alien vampires that invade the planet, grabbed my attention. The film was better than the previously described plot but not by much. I will say the highlight of the film was Mathilda May walking around naked killing people; but other than that, there were a few reanimation scenes worth viewing and that was about it. I wouldn't try too hard to see this movie.
"I'm sure you'd rather be recuperating with a pretty nurse.".
Grade: C-.
