Review of Lifeboat (1944) by Ben W — 08 Jun 2007
A favorite hitchcock of mine based on an old john steinbeck story. it deals with the sticky gray areas of human morality with an ensemble cast during world war 2. a navy boat is sunk in the atlantic by a a german u-boat that is also sunk by the us vessel right before it sinks.
a lifeboat picks up a few survivors, the last of which is a nazi soldier from the u-boat. some of the passangers want to kill him and others insist that they dont. after some heartbreaking moments and deception amongst those on board it reaches a climax.
it still amazes me that on several occasions hitchcock has basically been able to make a really interesting film using basically one set the entire time.
