Review of Lifeboat (1944) by Prathaban M — 01 Oct 2008
A great war film which was quite original in its execution. It holds the world record for smallest set ever used on film. It's quite ingenious how for 96 minutes it remains in such a cramped setting and yet stays so interesting, but I guess the people that occupy that tiny space help, and the fact that the film was based on a story by John Steinbeck didn't do any harm either.
Although critics at the time said otherwise, it's actually a great piece of propaganda against the inhumanity of Nazi Germany, and deals with some of the feelings the Allied citizens may have been feeling at that period late in the Second World War.
Hitchcock's cameo is brilliant.
