Review of Lifeboat (1944) by Fabrício M — 19 Jan 2014
This film is a Hitchcock gem (not really known by me) that must have raised a few eyebrows at its 1944 release. A handful of Americans wind up in a lifeboat along the U-Boat captain who sank their ship.
Drama ensues with a myriad of characters. Bankhead, the star, seems out of place to me but the others are solid, especially Slezak the U-boat captain and Hodiak the angry American. As with all Hitchcock films, not everyone is as they seem.
John Steinbeck wrote the story. Excellent production that must have made the actors miserable during filming. Highly recommended. (And as with all Hitchcock films, he inserts himself into the movie. He does here, too, but I missed it.
