Review of Lifeboat (1944) by Anthony S — 09 Jan 2009
Brilliant, breath taking writing. Why this does not get talked about more, or pop up on more critics "top" lists is beyond me.
A Classic example of "less is more" and creatively making the most of what you've got. The story is compelling, thrilling, each character rich and interesting (particularly Tallulah Bankhead as Connie Porter) and it manages to pull off an entertaining twist while taking place on a tiny lifeboat out at sea.
Shot in beautiful black & white, it's quite easy on the eyes with composition that is near flawless. The acting is amazing for what must have been an aggravating shoot. It's one of Hitch's absolute best.
