Review of Life of Pi (2012) by Lucas Y — 30 Sep 2013
Visually one of the most stunning films I've seen. Compelling story. Well acted, especially Suraj Sharma and Irfan Khan (old & young Pi). I was hooked from the beginning. The story never becomes a religious clusterfuck thanks to some sharp writing, which it easily could have been.
The ending caught me completely off guard where Pi tells his "real" story. But when you think about the entire film afterwards it all made sense. Pi was the tiger. When he tries to tame the tiger, he's trying to tame his own anger after losing everything, even his faith almost.
"Faith is a large area with lots of places to go." Brilliant achievement for Ang Lee. One of my favorites of 2012.
