SPOILERS AHEAD: I wasn't really sure how to take this film seriously knowing it was Ang Lee directing and the only film I had watched was his hulk adaption which was really weak and it seemed he didn't read the source material.

Granted with this movie I haven't read the book to film but what appears before my eyes is something he took much heart with the visuals taking over for the films plot to develop and many believe that this is a story about religion when really its about a man's struggle to survive such incredible odds that are, like the name of the character irrational and seem to never end.

Much like religions way of explaining things of believing in the impossible this is a film that is asking for our attention to where we think it wouldn't be necessary. Where there are certain characters who generally met and never see again wondering what purpose did they serve and was there any significants behind them and if you are able to finish the journey, you find the emotional scenes are no way forced into the films narrative arc in which left to the audience for their interpretation for what the characters are to them .

Ang Lee managed to pull off the impossible by showing the impossible by using visual effects and showing certain through symbolism and metaphors it gives an emotional ride of what does certain things mean to the individual by asking not do we believe in god but what do we believe.
