Review of Life of Pi (2012) by Adam S — 27 Jan 2018
There are 2 films I've walked out of thinking that 3-D actually adds to the film (and not just the ticket prices). One of them was "Avatar". The other was "Life of Pi".
Suraj Sharma, in his film debut, was absolutely brilliant, considering he spent the large majority of the film acting against CGI animals.
While we're on CGI, the visuals were amazing. From Richard Parker himself, to the humpback whale breaking through the jellyfish, to the mystical meerkat island.
I was personally partial to the ocean montage, where the camera went deeper and deeper to the bottom of the ocean.
This film mixes humour, spirituality, nature and drama together for one amazing film - one which leaves you to think long after the final credits finish rolling.
UPDATE: While the suspense is sometimes lessened, a second viewing of this film brings it's own charm, with many hints as to the ending being shown, forcing the viewer to truly think about the impact of this film. Absolutely stunning on BluRay, as well.
