Review of Life of Brian (1979) by Andrew C — 01 Mar 2011
Monty Python's most controversial film and deemed blasphemous on quite a few occasions. As a Christian, I personally found nothing blasphemous in this film. The Pythons are not attacking religion, but simply pointing out that people have and always will be nitpicky, annoying, and too quick to make stupid and/or dangerous decisions when in groups.
The best comedians are sometimes the ones who upset you because they make you question your view on the world and Monty Python is one of the best at this. While probably the most coherent and story-driven of the Python films, I honestly felt the comedy kind of became played out in parts and the point already well-made.
The ending gives us one of the most catchy and upbeat songs from the Pythons, though, which is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face no matter how much life gets you down.
