Review of Life of Brian (1979) by Richard D — 06 Jul 2018
This is not just the best Monty Python film's, it's one of the best comedy films ever made. The central sequence where Brian accidentally acquires his followers and cannot get rid of them is the most brilliantly incisive religious satire ever written.
In defending the film upon it's release, the Python crew correctly defended the film against charges of blasphemy since the film is actually quite respectful of Jesus and does not lampoon him in any way.
However, the target here is not just organized religion, it's the very idea of religion of any sort.
