Review of Life Is Beautiful (1997) by Genevieve R — 08 Jul 2012
This is one of the most beautiful movies in the world. A unique take on the Holocaust story as we see it through the innocent and confused eyes of a child, while his father desperately tries to shelter his son from the horrors of the concentration camps by pretending it is all a fun game.
Always makes me cry, especially the scene where Guido plays Offenbach's "Barcarolle" on the loudspeaker and calls out to his wife, letting her know that he is still alive. The ending is so sad yet so happy, especially when Giosue is reunited with his mother and he "wins a tank.
