Review of Life Is Beautiful (1997) by Matthew F. J — 11 Jan 2014
Seriously one of the greatest movies I have ever seen. You'd never think that a comedy about the Holocaust could be more endearing and heartfelt than any typical drama about the Holocaust, honestly.
Benigni mixes the slapstick humor of Charlie Chaplin, the nostalgic colors of Cinema Paradiso, and, you know, Schindler's List (obviously..) and the result is magical. The climax and resolution really get me.
After the whole movie, you'd think his death would be a little less abrupt, but it's surprisingly realistic. And the tank. Wow. I cried. 5 out of 5.
