Review of Life Is Beautiful (1997) by Andrew G — 01 Feb 2016
Life Is Beautful (LA VITA È BELLA) had the most impact on me, as this movie was full of comedy and reality. This movie had a tone at the beginning that starts as a family had a peaceful life and how everything was going smoothly, until they were taking to concentration camps.
One of the most important themes in this movie is Laughter can ease even the most stressful situations. Guido makes the people around him laugh, this is due to the fact that he does not want Joshua know that he is really here to get "evacuated" by the Nazis.
Guido makes the mood of the concentration camp playful and lighthearted by acting as if the camp is a game. The music and bright lighting adds to this effect. In the movie, Guido frequently uses Dramatic Irony, as he says that the camp is a game to protect his son.
At the end of the movie, Joshua is surprised that there is a tank that Guido was explaining, and there is an American soldier, liberating the camp, finally reaching his mom, and saying that they won! Overall, this movie was very emotional to watch, and I highly suggest watching this movie!
