Review of Life Is Beautiful (1997) by Chris S — 07 Mar 2017
This movie is now on my list of favorites. Roberto Benigni demonstrates how humor can be both a shield and weapon in a world gone quite mad. In the first half of the movie he uses his Charlie Chaplin-like humor as a weapon to defeat his romantic rival, the town clerk, for the hand of his princess-teacher.
In the second half his imagination and humor is a shield to protect his young son against the realities of a nazi concentration camp. If we all had less anger and more goofball-humor like this it might at least lower our blood pressure and allow us better to deal with the slings and arrows life sends our way.
But before you decide to see this movie I will warn you I suffer from a medical condition my kids call DAD (Dat Ain't DatFunny) humor.
