Review of Life as a House (2001) by Stephanie J — 07 Sep 2011
In one day, a man gets fired, learns that he's dying from cancer, and resolves to build a house with his estranged and troubled son. Kevin Kline is perfect as George and Kristin Scott Thomas matches him as his ex-wife.
The supporting cast excels, but much like Hayden Christensen's performance as Sam, the story is too contrived to be involving and too earnest to be dismissed. A very mixed bag that isn't entirely satisfying.
