Review of Lie with Me (2004) by P. P — 02 Nov 2008
I'm always a fan o' yee ol' dirty art film. This story was directed by Clement Virgo (who has helmed episodes of HBO's superb series, TheWire). This film was quite uneven though the voiceovers of the protaganist Leila are deeply poetic and will resonate with many women.
However, the overall narrative of Lie With Me lacks substansive emotional and dramatic heft. But oh, how lovingly filmed! Each frame of this film appears to be bathed in buttery summer sunlight. The actors have an innate sensuality that invariably adds heat to the sexy summer torpor.
I'd still recommend this, especially to women who are fans of Eric Balfour, who is particularly beautiful here. Worth checking out in spite of the flaws. An interesting effort with an astute uncompromising look at female sexual caprices.
