Review of Letter from an Unknown Woman (1948) by Darryl J — 13 Aug 2008
An incredible, heartbreaking film. Joan Fontaine, probably deserved another oscar for her acting, for a woman of 30 she plays a very convincing adolescent. Louis Jourdan's character is despicible but through Fontiane's character we learn to love him as she does.
Ophuls' direction is near perfect and the score only adds to the atmosphere. Its a shame that this movie too remains unknown to most, for those who are really serious about classic film it is a MUST SEE.
To heighten the experience, try watching it on a rainy night.
