Review of Letter from an Unknown Woman (1948) by David S — 16 Apr 2010
I sat in a theatre having only seen a handful of excellent Ophuls films in the past watching Letter from an Unknown Woman. I did not want this film to end. Perfect pitch direction about a woman in love with a rather self-absorbed musician.
He meets her and forgets about her - but she remains in love with him. It is a heartbreaking story but a magnificent film. Ophuls amazing camerawork is on display here at his very best and perfectly captures the surrounding sets and essence of the film.
One of my favourite films ever made.
