Review of Letter from an Unknown Woman (1948) by Adam R — 09 Apr 2010
A great, old-fashioned melodrama about lost-love and missed opportunities. German director Max Ophuls applies a keen, sophisticated eye to the tragic tale of concert pianist Stefan Brand (a classy Louis Jourdan) and unfortunate waif/hanger-on Lisa (Joan Fontaine, rarely better).
Lisa falls in love with Stefan when he moves into the same apartment complex she shares with her.
