Review of Let's Scare Jessica to Death (1971) by Douglas P — 25 Feb 2008
A low-budget atmospheric chiller that contains an indelible haunting image : a corpse in a wedding dress floating up to the surface of a lake. The locale and the grey atmosphere that weighs it down are what really makes the film work.
Horror is mainly about the damaged individual in an uncomfortable landscape. And the performance by Zohra Lampert paired with the New England setting provides a cold feeling that seeps and seeps into the bones of the viewer.
Truly not much happens, and you don't know what is real and what is imagined. I miss films of this ilk. Also reminds me of 'Carnival of Souls' in its content as well as its approach.
