Review of Lethal Weapon (1987) by Melvin W — 06 Jan 2012
Lethal weapon is the definitive buddy cop movie. It's got the laughs, the action, the story, the cast... I could go on for days. But what it has most of is the story. When officer Riggs and Murtaugh first meet, they arent each others biggest fans.
They don't like the way one another works or one another for that matter. Yet, by the end of the movie there having Christmas dinner together. That's where the film shines. Taking two of hollywoods (former best) and putting them side by side was genius for the late 80s.
Mel Gibson as officer Riggs is truly remarkable to see. His charisma, charm, and true ggrittiness are what (IMO) drive then film. Whether he's chasing down thugs or fist fighting the main villain Gibson is completely believable as a cop on the edge.
Danny glover also does a great job at being the family man/ cop who likes to keep his composure. The score is also very impressive, albeit simple but fits into the film very well. If you haven't checked out this late 80s romp give it a watch.
