Review of Let the Right One In (2008) by B B — 14 Sep 2012
Oh my. This film really hit a nerve after watching it. I've always enjoyed a good vampire film, especially for the romance aspect of them. On top pf the film being so superbly and aesthetically pleasing, the acting was just great. A lot of people complained about the acting, and have said that the U.S. adaptation withholds the better acting. Yet, I only found one flaw in the acting, and that was when Oskar and Eli are talking to each other by the tree outside of the building. Even that, though, was excusable.
The film utilized such excellent contrast of brightness and darkness and color. The bloodshed was beautiful--possibly reminiscent of that of V for Vendetta. The film held true, somewhat, to the book. Except, of course, the pedophile aspect of the book. That wouldn't have brought in the best reviews, though. From the opening scene to the closing pool sequence and train sequence, this film was just beautiful to watch, listen to and be a part of. I like to try to label this as a poetic, dark romance, horror film. Just give it a shot, you won't regret it. Well, maybe the cat scene, that was quite humorous. One of my top 5 favorite movies of all time.
