Review of Lenny (1974) by Mike S — 28 Apr 2010
Well made.
Maybe if this film wasn't competing with the giants like "Godfather: Part II", "China Town" and "Conversation" (wow! what a year for cinema history!) we could see some Oscars for it; including Dustin Hoffman, who performed one of his best roles ever, Valerie Perrine as the actress and also Bob Fosse, who made this film as good as he could!
Also the script, cinematography and make up of this film are adorable.
I love the one-take master shot scene of Lenny doing his act in a raincoat while he is high. It's magically Played by Hoffman and made by Fosse.
I also like this Lenny Bruce dialogue: "The problem is we always expect women to be a combination sunday school teacher, and $500-a-night hooker!".
And just to know: "Al Pacino was considered for the lead role"!!!
