Review of Lenny (1974) by Timothy K — 03 May 2011
This is a hefty biopic that chronicles the short life of Lenny's controversial stand up career. The film does not offer a broad in depth look at his life, instead the film becomes something so personal that you only wish he were still around today.
Bob Fosse has directed a couple of my favorite films ('Lenny' and the great 'All That Jazz'). Like 'All That Jazz', 'Lenny' keeps to the main character and those that pertain to to the characters central storytelling.
The film has guts and creative editing. I am sure Fosse chose to direct this film, because he may have seen a little of himself in the great Lenny Bruce.
