Review of Leatherheads (2008) by Aaron V — 30 Mar 2009
Man what happened? Leatherheads tells a story of a struggling pro football team that needs a boost, with college football in full swing and having the only football star in the country Clooney goes to get um and save the sport of pro football.
While the movie does have style it lacks the second part and thats grace. Clooney does have the skills and direct and as we know, play leads in films but in this probably the best character he can save the film from himself.
Like I said the film looks great, the music if fantastic and some of the dialog hits it home. Krasinski does a good job with clooney, well almost everyone does a good job with clooney but they fall short with each other.
There is a few laughs, most of them slapstick. There are some great scenes that throw back to the period films with the cops chasing Clooney and Zellweger. But there hearts even though its made with alot of real life friends and just not there.
Zellweger at times is very cheecky and cute and sometimes she is painful to watch. She may have a problem with clooneys slack directing style and it shows. I wanted so badly to watch this film and love it, I wound up resenting it.
The Coen brothers have a huge influence on Clooney that is very apparent in this film but the only problem is at times the slow pace and way over the top acting. Clooney.. everyones is allowed to have one bad movie.
.this is yours.
