Review of Lawn Dogs (1997) by Alison O — 24 Feb 2005
A young girl gets a crush on the man who mows the lawns in her housing development. It has been a while since I saw this one so the character names escape me at the moment but I remember everything else like I had just watched it. The young girl goes out to sell cookies for some sort of youth group her parents have forced her to join and instead of knocking on doors all day she wanders out to the woods reciting stories about Babyaga and trying to avoid her pushy parents. While in the woods she finds the trailer where the lawn guy lives and begins a friendship but she is expecting more from it than he is willing to give. He is a very nice guy and tries to give her some joy in her life but the nearby comunity react predictably when they find out where she spends so much time.
This movie is perfect for any who realize that a freindship is possible between adults and kids without it getting sexual and also for those who don't realize this so that they can start to see reality again. Don't miss this movie, it will give you something to think about and could help you remember a few of the more pleasant things about your own childhood. The end is kind of sad but it is the only way such a beautiful freindship could end in light of societies views.
