Review of Lawn Dogs (1997) by Gale D — 27 Aug 2009
A very sweet film that certainly drew me in and fired my emotions to the point where I felt genuine anger towards the bigoted residents of Camelot Gardens and the security guard who was a traitor to his class.
All my sympathy, however, went to Trent, with very little left for the ten year old Devon. This was largely due to an absolutely stunning and moving performance from the brilliant and under-rated Rockwell.
That said, Barton's performance wasn't bad either - the character was just far too precocious to be sympathetic. I also felt the attempts at Burton-esque magic realism jarred a little bit throughout the film.
