Review of Lawless (2012) by Jason M — 09 Mar 2013
If there was ever any doubt about Shia LaBeouf's ability to act amongst some of Hollywood's greatest, Lawless effectively ends that doubt. John Hillcoat succeeds in transporting the audience into a time and place rarely seen in film, from the tangles and churches of Virginia backwoods to the ruthless streets of the city.
While Lawless exhibits an excellent cast all around, the true standouts are LaBeouf, Clarke, and Hardy; their on-screen chemistry is what allows the characters to be connected with and the plot fully realized.
