Review of Lawless (2012) by Khaled Q — 28 May 2013
This film was a mix of a Western and Crime Drama/Gangster flick. And in this film's case, it was a great thing. The acting was top notch, Tom Hardy is the next big actor of our time (I first noticed him in Black Hawk Down) and gives a fantastic performance, as do the rest of the cast.
Shia LeBeouf is becoming a better actor with every new film, and this is some of his best work yet, Jessica Chastain, Gary Oldman are brilliant. However, it's Guy Pearce's villan that is equally unsettling as Tom Hardy, that is, they acted equally great and both of their characters were perfectly balanced in a Yin Yang way.
The film is brutal, violent and makes no apologies for it. The fact this is a true story, makes this film all the more solid in my books.
