Review of L'Avventura (1960) by Matt R — 10 Jun 2007
A haunting objective and interpretive work from Italian master Michaelangelo Antonioni. It takes the conventions of what should be a mystery thriller or a romantic soap opera and instead tells a story about cold hearted people and how their lonliness forces them to substitute lust and sex for relationships, while chronicling lives of aimlessness and decadence.
I love these types of films. They keep you interested with their stories as you watch them but then stay with as you contemplate their meaning, and just what exactly was the director trying to say. I wasn't sure what it was it all meant until the end and until it was over.
Then as I interpreted it a wave of realization came over me as I said to myself "Oh, thats what its all about?".
