Review of L'Avventura (1960) by Michael R — 19 Jun 2012
Antonioni builds a lethargically artsy fartsy tombstone about wealthy bored people without responsibilities, always seeking escape from things, so much that one of them disappears and her friend and her consort try to escape responsibility for her disappearance by disappearing into a hopeless escapist romance that isn't a romance because the woman is just used as a stopover for the male who needs women to comfort his lack of self.
Antonioni wants to promote randomness but is obsessed with architecture. Mostly boring film for artsy types entertains because the author can't elude making a form out of his belief in a random universe.
