Review of Late Spring (1949) by Marko H — 06 Jan 2008
Like any other Ozu film, we watch domestic conflict, and get slightly bored. However, like any other Ozu film, this was also beautiful. The quality is slightly poorer than later Ozu, and the soundtrack is somehow inappropriate, but these are relatively small things.
Ozu uses the post-war Westernization of Japanese culture as a theme throughout the film, but the issue of marriage is the centerpiece of this story.
