Review of L'Atalante (1934) by Dennis L — 15 Apr 2009
Vigo was on his deathbed with TB when he was directing this masterpiece. It is a poetic, humanist triumph and influenced the auteurs of French New Wave. The scene when Dita Parlo is in Michel Simon's cabin, particularly her reaction to the hands in a jar, is astonishing.
One of the most wonderful scenes ever captured.
